Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki State University of Małopolska in Oświęcim was established in July 2005 as a joint initiative of the authorities of the Oświęcim county, the Małopolska Region and the City of Oświęcim. Our University enjoys the patronage of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. In 2005, the Association of Municipalities and Counties of Małopolska Region honoured our University with the title of “Leader 2005” – the best undertaking in Małopolska Region in 2005. Since 2010, as the first Polish institution of higher education, the University has borne the name of Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki. The school offers master’s, engineering and bachelor’s degrees. All fields of study have a practical profile. The University has been awarded The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, which means that our students can study at foreign universities in Spain, Germany, Turkey, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. The University has two modern buildings: Collegium Primum, put into use in 2005, and Collegium sub Horologio, whose adaptation under the Malopolska Regional Operational Programme was completed in 2010. The Rector’s Office of the University is located in the historical building in which the first Polish political prisoners in Auschwitz Concentration Camp were held. The University has an air-conditioned lecture theatre for 300 students, 2 air-conditioned lecture halls for 100 students and classrooms for 120, 60, 50, 45, 30 and 20 students respectively. All halls and classrooms are equipped with modern multimedia equipment. The University has a publishing house, a multimedia reading room and a library open to the public. The University organizes numerous events including international congresses, scientific conferences, discussion panels, a film festival, Oxford debates, picnics, open days and training courses.
